Faith Formation for Adults in Cork and Ross

 

Priory Institute:  Theology by Distance Learning

In association with the University of Wales, Lampeter, the Priory Institute in Tallaght offers certificate, diploma and degree programmes in theology.     The texts for each course in the programme are provided to participants at the beginning of each module allowing a person to study from home.  Each student is linked to a study centre which is stocked with the basic reading resources as well as having a local co-ordinator who liaises with the student.  Study days are also available during each module and an academic tutor is available for consultation via email

Maryvale Institute:  Study of the Catechism of the Catholic Church

The Maryvale Institute’s Study Programme of the Catechism of the Catholic Church runs one night a week in two centres in the diocese:  in the Franciscan Friary in Liberty St. in the city and in Myross Wood Retreat House in Leap in West Cork.  Each group is accompanied in their study by a Spiritual Director.

Cork Theology Forum

Certificate in Holistic Spirituality: Ennismore Retreat Centre

Beginning in Autumn 2010, the Ennismore Retreat Centre in Cork will offer a one year Certificate in Holistic Spirituality that will be run over eight Saturdays throughout the year and one residential weekend.  This certificate is part of the outreach programme of the Priory Institute in Tallaght and will be led by a variety of experienced and qualified facilitators in the field of contemporary Christian Spirituality.  The course director is Martina Lehane Sheehan and the course supervisor is Benedict Hegarty OP.  A full description of the course can be downloaded from:

NOSTRA: New Openings in the Study of Theology and Religion for Adults

The NOSTRA programme is designed to allow a participant to achieve a qualification in Theology at their own pace. The participant completes a number of modules leading to a Certificate in Theology & Religious Studies. On completion of this certificate they can set their sights on a Higher Certificate in Theology & Religious Studies. This programme is co-ordinated in Cork by Mary Immaculate College, Limerick in conjunction with the Presentation Brothers and a different module is offered on a particular aspect of theology each semester.  Classes take place in Marydyke House in Cork City on Thursday evenings and can be taken for personal interest or as part of an accredited study programme towards a Certificate, Diploma or Degree.  Other  NOSTRA modules are offered in a variety of locations throughout Munster.

Dominican Biblical Institute, Limerick

Offers a three year scriptural formation programme for lay people with potential for leadership, who will be competent to work with Scripture in diverse pastoral, catechetical and liturgical settings. Year 1 focuses on the Old Testament, Year 2 on the New Testament, and Year 3 on practical training in presenting the Scriptures in various settings.  The programme requires participants to take part in one full Saturday seminar per month (September to May) and one evening session (two hours) per month.
The programme will enable participants to deepen their own understanding of and love for the scriptures, and will give them the knowledge and the practical skills to work with scripture in their own communities.

All Hallows College, Dublin | School of Adult and Community Learning

In addition to its wide variety of undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes, All Hallows College established a School of Adult and Community Learning in 2008 in order to facilitate, co-ordinate and develop the Continuing Education programmes of the college.  This school seeks to provide a ‘home’ for non-accredited and certain accredited courses, which by nature of their methodology and structure, are suited to adult learners.  The brief for this new school is to make education and training accessible to the widest number of people possible.

BA for Personal and Professional Development

  • A new, part-time, flexible, modular BA, that the student designs according to their own interests and goals.
  • Open to all learners [23 years +]
  • Credits given for existing skills, knowledge or experience, including participation in the Pathways: Exploring Faith and ministry programme, thereby quickening route to degree.
  • Based on an internationally recognised model of adult education.
