Most Reverend John Buckley, Bishop of Cork and Ross, has announced changes to appointments of priests in the Diocese of Cork and Ross.
The changes include two retirements and one ordination. Three priests are also taking time to do further study while one priest returns to the diocese from study leave.
Mahon and Carraig na bhFear parishes get new parish priests and a new administrator is appointed to the Cathedral.
Bishop Buckley made a commitment in June 2005 at the launch of the pastoral plan for the diocese to establish a diocesan pastoral team to help parishes implement the recommendations of the 'Pilgrim Steps' report.
The appointments see two priests assigned to the diocesan pastoral team to work in adult religious education and liturgy.
They join the three fulltime people and one part-time person who are already working with the parishes of the diocese. The team is now comprised of two lay people, one religious and three priests.
A number of appointments previously held by priests in the diocese are left vacant. The parishes of St. Joseph's Mayfield and the the South Parish will have just one priest each; there will not be a priest as chaplain at Mahon.
Two priests who are natives of Cork city and were ordained as members of religious orders are being seconded to the diocese.
Fr Gregory Howard is a native of Ballinlough and is an Augustinian priest who has served in Dublin and is appointed to Glounthaune.
Fr Raymond Riordan who is a native of the Cathedral parish and a Norbertine priest returns from working in the Diocese of Kilmore to become curate in Douglas parish.
